The Partnership for Downtown Rochester has unveiled its vision for downtown and the principles that will guide the work to create a business improvement district (BID) in the heart of the city.

The Partnership for Downtown Rochester said the vision and principles were created following the collection of public input.

The vision statement describes a downtown Rochester that is a historic, vibrant and welcoming hub for community activity, featuring “energetic” public spaces where there is an emphasis on active street life and where arts, music, culture, shopping, living, education and employment opportunities are accessible.

Principles guiding the BID process, according to the Partnership for Downtown Rochester: community centered and accessible; welcoming and safe; equitable; vibrant; vital.

“The Partnership for Downtown Rochester takes the work of stewarding the BID formation process very seriously,” Galin Brooks, executive director of the Partnership and president and CEO of the Rochester Downtown Development Corp., said in a news release.

“Downtown is the center of the Greater Rochester economy — it’s everybody’s downtown. Downtown is the center of a proudly diverse city. That’s why it’s vitally important that public, private and community-based leadership work together to realize a shared vision for the future of downtown.”

The Partnership, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, is a public-private partnership between the RDDC, Finger Lakes Empire State Development, the city of Rochester and ROC2025.
